About:
This a blog intended to share small interesting snippets of my research on soldiers connected with Ireland. The story of each soldier featured on this blog is told through an object such as a grave, memorial, medal or letter. There will be somewhat of a focus on County Offaly.
The blog is run by Stephen Callaghan. Stephen is a history MLitt student at UCD. He currently works in the legal sector. He has previous worked in the National Museum of Ireland as a documentation assistant and has completed other free lance work in the museum sector. He has authored various books, articles, blog post and regularly speaks about his research.
Stephen was instrumental in the 2018 excavation of WW1 mock trenches in Birr, County Offaly, which received national coverage in the Irish media, and the 2019 conservation of the 6.6 meter tall wooden memorial cross to Captain Lancelot Studholme just outside of Birr, County Offaly.
